Choosing the right style of windows & doors

Whether you’re carrying out a renovation project, installing a conservatory or orangery, or are building a new property to your own design, choosing the right style of windows and doors has an enormous impact on both the appearance of your home and on the way,  you live in it. With the development of so many new designs and colours, it can be difficult to decide so to help you get started, we’ve taken a look at choosing the best window styles and materials for your property.

Exterior window styles to suit every style of architecture

From a traditional cottage to a modern, minimalist house, our range of windows includes styles to suit every situation.

Casement windows

Casement windows are a traditional choice and suit most styles of architecture. They have hinges on one side and come with multi-locking points for security. Open-out casement windows look good in uPVC but can also be constructed from timber or aluminium if these materials suit the style of your home better.

Sash windows

Sliding sash windows are ideally suited to older properties, particularly in listed buildings. Old sash windows have a reputation for being rattly and draughty so replacing them with new windows will increase your home’s energy efficiency rating while maintaining its traditional appearance. Bespoke sash windows can be manufactured in timber, aluminium, or uPVC, which as well as classic white is available in a range of colours and realistic wood grain effects.

Bow and Bay windows

Bow and bay windows bring a period charm to any property. They were popular form the Victorian period through to the 1930s but are also often seen in modern homes. By increasing the number of glass panes in the window, bay windows maximise the natural light entering the room as well as giving a spacious feel.

Feature windows

If you’re thinking of something a little different that will lift your property out of the ordinary, we can create bespoke feature windows to bring your dreams to life. From ultra-modern frameless windows to arched windows to blend in with a classical architectural style, our expert designers will ensure that your windows add the perfect finishing touch to your home.

Choosing the right front door styles for your home

Whether you’re looking to create a grand entrance, adding extra security and warmth to your property or to open up your home to the garden, our extensive range of bespoke front door styles allows you to realise your vision.

Entrance doors

An entrance door is the first impression visitors to your home receive so it’s important to make the right choice. From uPVC and composite doors in a vast array of colours and finishes to luxury hardwood entrance doors, we can help you find the perfect door to complement the style of your property.

Bi-fold doors

Our luxurious bi-fold doors fold back on themselves, allowing you to really open up your home to the outside, perfect for entertaining in summer or for admiring the garden while staying cosy and warm in the winter. Bifold doors make a real design statement and lend themselves to both modern and period properties.

French doors

French doors bring period charm to your home while allowing the natural light to flood in. The small panes of glass blend perfectly with Georgian style windows while modern design features ensure that our French doors are also energy efficient.

Patio doors

Classic patio doors slide back on steel runners to open up your home to the garden. They can be constructed in either uPVC or aluminium in an array of colours and finished to suit any style of property. Another advantage of sliding doors is that they allow you to position your furniture close by them if required, an important consideration in a smaller room.

Porches

As well as protecting you from the elements, a porch is an effective way to add character and charm to your home. Our designers work with you to design and install your bespoke porch to your individual requirements.

uPVC doors and windows, aluminium or timber – which is the best choice?

When deciding on the best style and material for your new windows and doors, taking a look at the exterior of your property is the first step to deciding what would suit it best. For example, if your property is modern, uPVC doors and windows with clean simple lines might look best while the windows for an old cottage should be kept in a similar style to the original. Aluminium window frames give a sophisticated, minimalist look while timber doors and window frames are the perfect way to soften a plain, rendered facade. Please note: whichever style of exterior window design you choose, all our doors and windows are available in wood alternatives,  meaning they have the same look as wood, but they are made for slightly more durable materials. This is an extremely popular choice with our customers.
