Top Door and Window Trends for 2020

Installing replacement windows and doors is high on the to-do list for many property owners, whether they’re improving their forever home, adding an extension or seeking to enhance the value of a property before putting it on the market. As well as offering better security and making your home cosier and more energy-efficient, new windows and doors instantly give your home a completely new look.

The days of limited options such as basic white uPVC windows are long gone. Today, there’s such a vast array of colours, finishes and materials available to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to start. Installing replacement doors and windows can be a significant financial investment so you need to be sure they will complement your property and also that they aren’t going to date quickly. To help you in your decision making, we’ve rounded up the top trends in windows and doors to look out for in 2020.

Sustainability

In 2020, homeowners are increasingly looking for sustainable windows and doors. Buildings lose most of their energy via the doors and windows so installing replacements with excellent thermal performance is a key trend for anyone concerned about the environment. Eco-friendly materials including timber, aluminium and uPVC promote an environmentally friendly approach to building design and help to reduce our carbon footprint. Our windows and doors are highly energy-efficient, combining the latest technology with designs to suit both traditional and contemporary properties.

Wood

Real wood windows and doors offer a timeless look as well as being right on trend for 2020. Real timber not only looks luxurious but also offers excellent levels of insulation and warmth. And with a little regular staining or painting, wood windows and doors will last for decades. Our prediction: whether hardwood or oak, the trend for wood windows and doors looks set to continue.

Large panes with aluminium frames

The top interior design feature for living areas is said to be natural light so it’s clear to see why large panes set in minimal frames are going to be very popular with customers in 2020. Windows with slim frames (or narrow sight-lines as they’re also called) are often made from aluminium, a lightweight yet very strong material that gives the windows a sleek, modern look. With the trend for bringing the outdoors inside on the rise, we’re also seeing more very large floor-to-ceiling windows that let natural light flood in and make the most of the view.

Aluminium is also a popular material for the fashionable industrial-style windows. These tall, slim designs come in an array of on-trend colours and are perfect for giving your home that wow factor.

Sliding glass doors

For the past few years, it’s been all about bifold doors but in 2020, sliding glass doors are enjoying a renaissance. Sliding doors take up less room and offer much larger expanses of glass than bifold doors, allowing you to maximise light and make the most of the view. With the latest technology, the doors can be designed to slide into a wall cavity so that they don’t take up any of your living space. Sliding glass doors that slide back on the outside of the wall are another of this year’s hottest trends.

Dark colours

In the UK, white windows are still the most popular but windows in bold, dark colours are the perfect way to give your property a stylish new look. Anthracite and charcoal grey have been the favoured colours in the past few years but for 2020, we’re tipping matte black windows as the trend to watch. Black frames look fantastic with both traditional and modern architecture and complement any style of decor.

Timber-look composite doors with traditional hardware

Thanks to their excellent security, insulation, and ease of maintenance, composite doors have been a customer favourite for several years, and this trend looks set to grow in 2020. Composite doors come in a wide range of colours and finishes that suit both contemporary and older homes. A timber-look composite door with a traditional door handle, letterbox and door knocker gives an authentic look to a cottage and you can add an individual touch with coloured stained glass panels.>
